From a layman's point of view, who is not quite familiar with the kinds of coffee, one may think that Gevalia is a type of coffee just like how Kona is or perhaps Blue Mountain coffee is. Kona coffee and the Blue Mountain coffee have gained their popularity through their origin, not to mention, of course, their taste and aroma. Indeed, Gevalia is an ultra-premium specialty coffee, but not quite the same as the previously mentioned coffees.

Gevalia was a famous coffee roastery in Scandinavia in the early 1700's. It is now located in Gavle, a place in Sweden; and the reason why it is known as Gevalia now is because this is the Latin word for Gavle. One may ask, how then did Gevalia coffee come about? How did it gain it's popularity and was ultimately considered one of the most expensive premium blends in the line of gourmet coffee? It was in the early 1700's, as mentioned, when one coffee lover or fanatic who really had the knack in mixing and evaluating coffee mixtures and blends, tried mixing different kinds of coffeebeans and grinding them in different ways. He then and roasted it to perfection. And this is how the now Gevalia coffee became popular.

It was through this process that he discovered different kinds of mixtures and combinations that ultimately have gotten the nod and approval of various coffee experts. After 140 years of business, Gevalia coffee has concocted a total of of over thirty combinations. As it continually provides coffee lovers perfect combinations of coffee, in terms of taste, consistency and aroma, this special kind of coffee has become a trademark for providing flavored coffee that would cater to anyone's tastes and whims depending on what mood they are in. From a simple vanilla flavor or an amaretto concoction, to the famous Peruvian organic mixture or perhaps the famous Gevalia roasted coffee with different varieties, one can never go wrong with Gevalia coffee.

Today, the Gevalia coffee production has been taken over by the famous Kraft, Inc. in 2005. Despite this, Gevalia coffee has proven to be popular amongst all coffee lovers from all walks of life. And to top it all, they also have added tea to their wide array of coffees.
